We stopped by the 3rd Annual Westover Day and loved seeing the community come together for games, food, and live music — a perfect reminder of Arlington’s neighborhood spirit. Spooky season is here with plenty of not-too-scary events for kids around Arlington — from Trunk-or-Treat at Lubber Run and pumpkin carving at Potomac Overlook to Halloween campfires, storytimes, and parades in Del Ray and Falls Church.
🚗 Joyce Motors Bids Farewell
After 85 years in Clarendon, Joyce Motors will close its doors on Oct. 10 to make way for a new mixed-use apartment building. The beloved family-owned auto shop, opened in 1940, will host a farewell celebration on Oct. 11 to thank loyal customers.
🌳 WaPo Profiles Ashton Heights
The Washington Post spotlighted Arlington’s Ashton Heights, celebrating its century-old charm, tree-lined streets, and preserved architectural character. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the neighborhood continues to protect its signature bungalows and historic homes while fostering a strong sense of community and environmental stewardship.
✍️ ARL Names New Poet Laureate
Arlington has appointed Jennifer Kronovet as its fourth Poet Laureate. An award-winning writer and translator, Kronovet will champion poetry and the literary arts through community programs, helping residents discover the power of language in everyday life.
🏆️ 2025 Design Awards Open
Arlington’s DESIGNArlington program is now accepting submissions through Nov. 14 for projects showcasing architectural, historic, and public space excellence. Open to residential, commercial, and civic designs completed since 2019, winners will be recognized in January 2026 for elevating Arlington’s built environment.
🏃 Army Ten-Miler Traffic Alert
The 41st Annual Army Ten-Miler kicks off Sunday, Oct. 12, starting at 7:50 a.m. near the Pentagon. Expect major road closures across Rosslyn, Crystal City, and near I-395 from 5 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Drivers should plan ahead and use Metro or rideshare.
